Pour a small amount of Cointreau on a small plate and use it to wet the rim of a cocktail glass. Spread some Real Salt on another dish, salt the rim of the glass and set aside. The cointreau is sticky so it helps the salt stay on the rim and not run down into the drink.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the Herradura and Cointreau. Squeeze one or two limes to make 1 oz of lime juice and add to the shaker with the simple syrup. Shake vigorously 33 times and strain into the cocktail glass.
Optional garnish: a lime wheel on the rim, or dropped into the glass.
On a hot day, make the drink in a collins glass and pour the ice and the margarita from the shaker.
